Hiscox Insurance, located in the UK, has reported its website is now 30 percent faster after adopting and implementing new optimization software. The company uses service-oriented architecture to power its 30 to 40 discrete software components, Computerworld UK reports.
Representatives from Hiscox stated the company already uses "best of breed" components, but wanted to be sure that the performance of its web applications were optimized - mainly, identifying and resolving any issues quickly. Before implementing this new technology, an in-house staff had been performing the work - mainly through guesswork, as the article states.
"[The new system] helps us identify where we can shave off time - for example, the commercial site has seen a 30 percent improvement in speed," said Andrew Turner, group IT director of Hiscox.
In addition to the insurance company, several sectors of the U.S. armed forces have taken steps to incorporate SOA. The U.S. Air Force recently contracted Northrop Grumman to implement SOA systems across its air and space command and control domains.
